Excited to share some new work I wrote/directed/edited for my good friend Scott Campbell and Tundra Books. Scott is an incredibly talented illustrator and children’s book author. For his first solo book, The Hug Machine, he and I collaborated on a promo where we made a kid workout video called 90-Second Hugs. So when his new graphic novel series, Cabin Head and Tree Head, got picked up by Tundra Books, their editor who is a big fan of the last promo campaign we did, commissioned me to make a trailer for the new project. I pitched a handful of ideas, but the team and I all quickly got excited about the concept of a “stunt” where Scott holds the book on his head for a ridiculous amount of time. Not only did it highlight Scott (and his charming personality), it also featured the book in almost every shot, and offered plenty of opportunities for little gags (that would also later translate to 12 short form social media pieces). Scott and I went to work on the script, put together a run-and-gun shoot in a park in LA (casting friends and family as extras including an incredible cameo from legendary children’s book illustrator Jon Klassen) and shortly thereafter, I edited together the promo. So far the response has been incredible with several influential people in the publishing industry touting is as taking the traditional “book promo” to the next level! Thanks to Tundra, Scott, and everyone else involved in the project. I couldn’t be happier with the result. And if you have young children, be sure to buy the book!
